Art songs by Juan de Navas (1647-1719)
Juan de Navas was one of the best known Spanish composers of the second half of the 17th c. As a second generation composer who wrote tonos and zarzuelas under the influence of his teacher and mentor, Juan Hidalgo, Navas absorbs Hidalgo’s musical legacy, as well as Italian and French influences that enrich his compositional language with innovative and eclectic elements.

MÚSICA FICTA
Música Ficta is one of the most distinguished and respected early music ensembles specialized in the performance of Latin American and Spanish baroque repertoire. Founded in Colombia by Carlos Serrano, since 1994 the ensemble has performed in the main churches and cathedrals of Latin America -where the most important music archives of the continent are found- as well as in some thirty countries in four continents. Its concerts and recordings have been broadcast through the most important radio stations in the American continent and Europe.

Música Ficta’s recordings have been issued by European and American labels, having received awards and 5 stars reviews by specialized international critics. The vitality, scholarship and clarity of its historically informed performances are based upon exhaustive musicological research. The latter has allowed the ensemble to perform and record, for the first time, music that had been forgotten for centuries, pouring light into valuable and hardly known Latin-American and Spanish repertoire.
