Roy Goodman

Since the late 1970’s, Roy Goodman has conducted dozens of major orchestras, choirs, ballet and opera companies, including the main symphony, radio and chamber orchestras in Aarhus, Amsterdam, Auckland, Belfast, Bergen, Bremen, Bretagne, Dublin, Edinburgh, Freiburg, Geneva, Glasgow, Graz, Groningen, Den Haag, Hamburg, Hannover, Helsingborg, Helsinki, Hilversum, Hobart, Köln, Lahti, Lausanne, Leeds, Leipzig, Lille, Lisbon, Liverpool, London, Maastricht, Malmö, Manchester, Melbourne, Minneapolis, Montréal, Norrköping, Oslo, Ottawa, Paris, Perth, Prague, Quebec, Reykjavik, Rotterdam, San Francisco, Stavanger, Stockholm, Stuttgart, Sydney, Tampere, Tel Aviv, Trondheim, Turku, Uppsala, Vancouver, Venice and Winnipeg! Roy has also conducted over 125 CDs – from Monteverdi (with Emma Kirkby) to Gershwin (with Measha Brueggergosman), including world-première recordings on ‘period’ instruments of Biber and Muffat Sonatas (with The Parley of Instruments), the complete Symphonies of Beethoven, Schubert, Schumann and sixty by Haydn (with the Hanover Band), and Holst’s The Planets (with the New Queen’s Hall Orchestra). With five grandchildren and a large sailing boat, it’s not surprising that, aged almost 64, Roy decided recently to take early retirement.
